The benefit concert was a life changing event.
Matt Parsons & his family arrived in the U.S. on Thursday and they came to
rehearsals at School of Rock. The House Band played Matt's songs so well
that it just blew our minds. We had another rehearsal on Saturday and
it went just as well.
On the night of the concert, we arrived early and did sound checks.
The room was completely set up, the banner was up (Don't Underestimate
The Power of Music) behind the drum throne. The kids were pumped and
ready. Maia was the MC and she greeted everyone. Then the House Band played
a whole set of music -Maia joined in drumming for Jean Genie.
After intermission, I ran a presentation and had the video that Allison Steigerwalt
put together - you can find this on www.injurednewborn.com on the right side
of the site. I also had another two presentations including one from the UK Erb's Palsy Group - explaining their role in prevention and waving hi to Matt!
Matt played 5 solo acoustic songs - it was just wonderful. Then the House Band joined him in two more songs and they
absolutely raised the roof! We ended by acknowledging all the work that the
kids did to prepare for and play in this concert. Matt & Maia received
pendants that said "Everything Is Possible".
We raised enough funds for 12 music scholarships for kids with BPI !
The DVD of the show will be ready for sale soon! Concert t-shirts still available at $10 per shirt plus shipping. |
